.
To correct astigmatism with laser technology it was approved by the FDA ten years ago. LASIK is not just used to correct astigmatism but also reduce the need for the thick and cumbersome glasses or problematic contact lenses that are prescribe for it so LASIK surgery is a good option to correct astigmatism.

The cornea mainly focuses power in the eye and by reshaping the cornea it can improve the sight of the eye. The reshaping of the cornea can correct near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. Flatten cornea will reduce near-sightedness and more spherical cornea can reduce astigmatism. With Lasik, cornea can be achieved in a spherical shape and it can correct astigmatism.

It can be done by changing the pattern of the beam of the laser. The large sum of tissue can be removed from one side to make it uniform and spherical and to flatten it, the tissue can be removed from one side of the cornea to correct near-sightedness. In this way it can correct both astigmatism and near-sightedness but irregular astigmatism will be difficult to correct yet it may be possible with a unique procedure but there is no surety. LASIK surgery is commonly used for correct astigmatism and has become the most successful process.
