LASIK FOR PRESBYOPIA
Laser Eye Surgery is a safe and best process to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. These vision problems occur because the refractive power of your eyes is not accurate and it does not allow light to focus at the exact point on your retina. Presbyopia is a common vision problem caused due to lack of actual focusing mechanism within your eyes.
Presbyopia is also known as old eyes because it occurs due to age. The crystalline lens is composed of proteins which is soft and flexible when you are young. At the age of 40 as the protein composition of the crystalline lens changes and makes it hard and less flexible then presbyopia occurs so the crystalline lens is not able to change its shape and ability to focus the near objects gets diminished. The symptoms of presbyopia commonly occur between the age of forty and fifty and get worsened at the age sixty-five. When presbyopia begins, people who already wear glasses may need bifocals or trifocals and those who have never worn glasses may require reading glasses.
If you are deciding for LASIK, presbyopia it is important for you to know about the process. LASIK totally does not effect your eye's focusing muscles or on the crystalline lens, so it does not correct ordinary presbyopia. LASIK is not a good vision correction option for you if you need eyeglasses for reading. If because you are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism then you can think about lasik. It may be an option if it is performed as a specialized monovision LASIK.
Those who are mildly nearsighted and have less than -3.00 D of nearsighted correction and cannot read clearly or comfortably with the glasses or contact lenses that can read easily by removing them. This is actually a unique advantage of mild myopia - you can be presbyopic and still be able to read by removing your eyeglasses or contact lenses. If you are mildly nearsighted, over 40 and have LASIK, there is possibility of getting excellent distance vision and you will become normal sighted but it depends upon one’s lifestyle and vision requirements. Monovision LASIK is a good option for you but before lasik surgery you must consult with your LASIK surgeon.
